Global360 reporters work over 13 weeks at the School of Journalism at Ryerson University, exploring global influences on local stories throughout the city of Toronto. The goal is to illuminate multiple perspectives using multimedia platforms.
Hockey. Chinatown. Tall towers. Toronto is known for its multiculturalism, its infrastructure and its preference for tough guys wearing that Maple Leaf-blue. The Global 360 team has spent the past three months uncovering the city’s gritty and under-appreciated communities.
Toronto’s underground communities and subcultures may be new or unfamiliar to many, but for one week Global 360 reporters worked to expose the city’s hidden cultural gems.
Dundas Street, one of Toronto's oldest, winds through a diverse set of communities helping to shape the character of Canada’s largest city. As the population explodes, new dynamics emerge and the shifting identities of Dundas Street promise a new Toronto.
For one week our reporters fanned out profiling various aspects of Moss Park, the area of Dundas between Jarvis and Parliament. We saw a glimpse of the people, the issues and a new future that this unknown community holds.
In a matter of 10-15 years, Canada's oldest social housing project will be completely "revitalized," short-hand for torn down and built up again. This multimedia gateway offers a snapshot of Regent Park in the Fall of 2007, shortly before the completion of revitalization's Phase One.
In this issue Global 360 reporters take a closer look at Regent Park, one of Toronto's poorest regions, east of Yonge and North of Shuter streets. Global 360 finds a dynamic neighbourhood, with residents and community workers responding creatively to civic issues.
In Ecos, Global 360 reporters scatter across Toronto and Ontario to witness current issues related to eco-sustainable living. Everywhere we look there is something or someone taking our planet into chaos, creating unhealthy environments and unstable systems.
In Blueprints for Tomorrow, Global 360 reporters fan out across Toronto to report on the city’s changing face in culture, public space, urban planning and small business.
